Choosing Your Kitchen Countertop
One of the many first world pains that we go through is the decaying of our kitchen counters. No longer do they look as shiny and eye-catching as they used to be. So the smartest thing to do would be to choose the material for the kitchen counter that is of good quality so that it may be longer lasting.
There are many types of material for our kitchen countertop that we can choose from. The best choice for a good kitchen countertop is stone because of its durability and also its natural beauty. Of course, there are other materials that you can look into like plastic laminate, plastic laminate and wood but these materials are not as long lasting so many would refrain from installing countertops made from thse two materials.
A type of stone, the granite, was once only to be found in high end kitchens, however, today it can be much more commonly found in many households. Granite is treated with a sealer which makes it resistant to stains. This treatment can last for a whopping 10-15 years. That’s 10-15 years of hassle free counter tops!
Quartz is also another type of stone that is used for countertops. Quartz counter installation is a very popular choice. The quartz has elegance and durability on its side. It’s definitely cheaper and better looking than the granite but is as durable as the granite too.
Plastic laminate is considered to be a very strong type of material which is not easily wearied out. Unlike granite which is only available in gray and black, plastic laminate is available in every color you could ever think of. However, you must remember not to put any hot pots and pans on the countertop without the use of coasters because this material is easily burned or damaged by heat.
As for wood countertops, with all the popularity being shown to quartz and granite, this once very favored material has lost its prominence, however that does not automatically mean that it has lost its value. Normally wood counters would be made from rock maple which are varnished with a sort of mineral oil. This varnish protects the wood and keeps it looking fresh and new.
