How to Make Old Shower Floor Grout Look New
Old Shower floor grout often turns dull and dark the the floor ages. Age and use effects white grout the most. Home improvement stores carry all of the materials needed. Repairing the floor grout can give a shower a new and refreshed look.
Instructions

Clean the shower floor with a stiff bristle brush and a chemical cleaner. Remove all of the soap scum and hair. Rinse the floor with clean water.

Remove the shower floor drain cover. Save the screws and cover. Plug the floor drain with a rag.

Remove the grout from the space around the floor drain with a utility knife and flat-head screwdriver. Remove the all of the grout from the joints between the tile that touches the floor drain.

Remove the top 1/8- to 1/4-inch deep layer of the grout between all of the tile with a hand-held grout saw. A hand-held grout saw has a blade that works well for this. Pay special attention to the joint joint along the walls.

Vacuum the dust and debris from the shower floor. Remove any trash that has fallen onto the rag in the shower floor drain.

Dampen the shower floor tile with water. The new grout sticks to damp joints better than dry joints.

Mix shower floor grout in a bucket with water. Add enough water to give the grout the consistancy of butter. Two popular shower floor grout colors are “Bright White” and “Snow White.”

Push the wet grout into the joints with a grout float. Push the grout into the old grout, try to fill the joint completely. Cut in the grout joint along the walls with the edge of a margin trowel. The margin trowel edge will give the corner a sharp look.

Wash the excess grout from the shower floor with a damp sponge. Wipe the floor at a 45 degree angle to the grout joints. Clean the sponge with water often. Allow the grout to dry for 24 hours before continuing.

Buff the shower floor tile with a clean dry rag. The dried grout will leave a haze that wipes up with a rag if it is cleaned shortly after the was applied.

Remove the debris and rag from the shower floor drain hole. Replace the drain cover.

Seal the shower floor grout with a colorant/sealer designed for tile. Apply the sealant with a small stiff bristle brush, like a toothbrush. ”Bright White” Is a common grout sealant color for shower floors. Let the grout colorant dry completely before continuing.

Apply a 1/8-inch wide bead of bath and tile grade caulk to the grout joint where the floor and the walls meet. Let the caulking dry before using he shower.

It may take weeks, or even months, but chances are that those tiles will crack and buckle leaving you with a real disaster on your hands.
So now the homeowner is back at the tile store, repurchasing the ceramic tile needed to start the floor all over again. So much for saving money. This time though, when the sympathetic salesperson suggests the services of a professional tiling installer, the wisest thing to do is listen and start looking for a good one right away.
Not all amateurs are going to have a terrible time installing a ceramic tile floor. If you are truly confident in your experience level and enjoy DIY, it could be a rewarding way to spend a weekend or two. For most people though, the best thing to do is leave the flooring installation to the pros and just look forward to enjoying your brand new flooring instead.
